Trip
In Arabicالرحلة
A trip is one movement of a vehicle from start to stop, recorded with its distance, duration, speed and alarms.
What is a trip in fleet management?
The trip is the basic unit of fleet analysis. A tracking system splits each vehicle's day into separate trips, each with a start and end point, distance, duration, moving and idle time, and any violations along the way.
In Safee, the Trips page brings these together for every vehicle and driver, linking each trip to its path on the map and its alarms.
How it works
- 1Device detects the vehicle starting and stopping
- 2Platform calculates distance, duration and speed
- 3Trip stored with its alarms and violations
Why does a trip matter in fleet management?
Most operational questions are answered at trip level: who was late, who took a longer road, where time was lost idling, which driver keeps breaking the rules. Without a reliable trip record, invoices, overtime and driver reviews rest on guesswork, and customer complaints or insurance claims are hard to answer.
What you gain
- Evidence for every vehicle movement
- Exposes idling and extra kilometres
- Links each violation to a trip and driver
How does Safee help record and analyse trips?
Safee records every trip automatically with its path, distance, duration and alarms, so you can see in minutes where time went and who broke the rules and when. Trips become daily figures you can bill on and assess drivers against, instead of estimates.
A field example
A cement supplier in Dammam saw daily loads per truck slip to 3. Filtering a week of trips longer than 4 hours showed that 40% included long idling at the plant gate. Operations agreed fixed loading windows with the plant, and within a month trucks were back to 4 loads a day.
Frequently asked questions
When does a trip start and end in a tracking system?
Usually it starts when the vehicle moves after ignition and ends when it stops long enough or the engine is switched off, depending on device and platform settings.
Why is one delivery split into several trips?
The system ends a trip at each long stop or engine switch-off, so a stop to load or rest starts a new trip.
What is the difference between a trip and a journey?
A trip is recorded automatically by the tracker from ignition on to ignition off; a journey is planned and approved in advance from an origin to a destination, and can contain several trips separated by rest stops.
