Asset Utilisation
In Arabicمعدل استخدام المركبات
A measure of how much each vehicle is actually used, by distance or driving hours, against a threshold the company sets.
What is asset utilisation in fleet management?
Asset utilisation compares what a vehicle actually does with the capacity the company pays for. A vehicle parked for days still carries insurance, depreciation and finance costs; an overworked one wears out early.
Safee's Asset Utilization report measures it by distance, driving time or both, colouring each day against two thresholds the company sets: red below the non-utilisation threshold, green above the daily utilisation threshold, yellow in between.
How it works
- 1Utilisation thresholds are set
- 2Each day's distance and time compared
- 3Days colour-coded per vehicle
Why does asset utilisation matter in fleet management?
Low utilisation is the clearest sign a fleet is bigger than it needs to be. Selling one idle vehicle, or moving it to a busy branch, saves its full annual cost. High utilisation, in turn, flags overworked vehicles that need earlier servicing or a replacement.
What you gain
- Finds surplus vehicles
- Backs buy or sell decisions
- Balances work across vehicles
How does Safee help measure asset utilisation?
Safee shows for every vehicle the days it actually worked and the days it stood, by distance or driving hours, so surplus and overworked vehicles appear in one report. Those figures back the decision to sell, move a vehicle between branches or buy.
A field example
A Riyadh rental company with 220 cars was unhappy with returns. A 90-day Asset Utilization report showed 31 cars red on more than 60% of days, mostly at two branches. The company moved 18 cars to its airport branch and sold 13, lifting average utilisation from 54% to 63%.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate asset utilisation?
Divide the days or hours a vehicle worked above your threshold by the total days or hours available in the period.
Should utilisation be measured by distance or engine hours?
Distance suits delivery and transport vehicles; hours suit equipment that works while stationary, such as cranes or pump tankers.
