Software Alarm
In Arabicالإنذار البرمجي
An alarm the fleet platform generates from a rule the administrator sets, rather than one raised by the tracker in the vehicle.
What is a software alarm in fleet management?
Telematics alarms come from two places: the tracker itself, programmed to send an event when a value is crossed, and the platform, which analyses incoming messages against broader rules. A software alarm is the second kind. It combines position, time, speed, sensor readings and geofences, so it catches what the device alone cannot, such as stopping outside approved sites or leaving a route.
How it works
- 1Device sends its messages to the platform
- 2System checks messages against rules
- 3Alarm logged and the right person told
Why does a software alarm matter in fleet management?
A rule on the platform changes in minutes and applies to hundreds of vehicles; changing a device setting needs a technician or remote reprogramming for each model. That is why most fleet policies, from working hours to site speed limits, run as software alarms. The device keeps whatever must happen in the cab immediately, such as a buzzer warning the driver.
What you gain
- Change policy without touching devices
- Catches what the device alone misses
- One standard across the fleet
How does Safee help you set up software alarms?
Safee builds software alarms from conditions that combine position, time, speed and sensors, and they take effect across the whole fleet or a single branch within minutes, with no technician visits. They sit in the same log and report as hardware alarms, so there is one place to follow.
A field example
A chilled-food distributor in Jeddah wanted to stop its 75 trucks moving outside working hours. The first plan was to reprogram the trackers, which meant a technician visit per truck. Instead it added an Out of Working Hours alarm condition on the platform and applied it to the whole fleet in ten minutes. In the first month it caught 23 night-time movements by three trucks; personal use stopped and the company saved about 1,800 km a month.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a software alarm and a hardware alarm?
A hardware alarm comes from the tracker according to its configuration, for example an event above 120 km/h. A software alarm is generated by the platform from a rule you set.
When is a hardware alarm the better choice?
When something must happen in the vehicle at once, such as a buzzer warning a speeding driver, or where weak coverage delays messages reaching the platform.
