Current Location Query
In Arabicالاستعلام عن الموقع الحالي
A command that asks a tracker to report its position immediately instead of waiting for its next scheduled message.
What is a current location query in fleet management?
A current location query, also called an on-demand location request or location poll, asks the device where it is now rather than waiting for its next scheduled report. It matters most with satellite trackers, which are set to report sparingly because every satellite message costs money.
In Safee it is the "Query current location" option on the Satcomm monitoring page, available for vehicles with a secondary satellite unit under the Satcomm service, with a daily number of requests set by the company's licence.
How it works
- 1Supervisor sends a location request
- 2Device replies over satellite
- 3Map updates with the new position
Why does a current location query matter in fleet management?
In deserts and remote areas hours can pass between two messages, which is a long time if a driver reports a breakdown, presses the panic button or misses a mandatory checkpoint. A request gives you the position when you need it, without raising the permanent reporting rate and multiplying the satellite airtime bill.
What you gain
- Position beyond mobile coverage
- Cheaper than frequent reporting
- Faster emergency response
How does Safee help you get a vehicle's position on demand?
Safee lets you request the position of a satellite-equipped vehicle at any moment, within a daily request quota. You get the position when a driver is overdue or reports a breakdown in a remote area, without paying for frequent reporting all day.
A field example
A water and fuel haulier in Salalah serving sites deep in the Empty Quarter lost sight of its trucks for hours outside mobile coverage. It fitted secondary satellite units to 12 trucks, set a two-hourly report and used on-demand requests when needed. When one truck ran 90 minutes late, a request showed it stopped 40 km short of the site, and the support crew reached it within an hour instead of searching blind.
Frequently asked questions
Can I request the location of any tracker?
Many devices support it, but it matters most for satellite units that report at long intervals. In Safee it works for vehicles on the Satcomm service, within a daily quota.
Why not just raise the reporting rate instead?
Every satellite message costs money; requesting on demand gives you the position at the moment that matters without a permanently higher bill.
