Vehicle Status
In Arabicحالة المركبة
A live classification of what a vehicle is doing right now: moving, standing with the engine running, parked with the ignition off, being towed, or offline.
What is vehicle status in fleet management?
Tracking systems derive vehicle status from two signals the tracker sends, speed and ignition state, plus whether its messages are still arriving. Together they tell the control room in seconds which vehicles are working and which are standing still burning fuel. It is not the same as vehicle active status, which a person records to show, for example, that a vehicle is in the workshop, in an accident or stolen.
Safee uses fixed colours: green for moving, blue for ignition off at zero speed, orange for idle (zero speed, engine on), red for towing (speed above zero, ignition off) and dark grey for offline.
How it works
- 1Tracker sends speed and ignition state
- 2Platform classifies and colours the status
- 3Supervisor focuses on the exceptions
Why does vehicle status matter in fleet management?
Status is the first thing a supervisor checks each morning. A vehicle sitting orange for hours is wasted fuel and unproductive engine hours; a red one may be theft or an unauthorised tow; a grey one has a faulty or disconnected unit. Summed over weeks, status time becomes a direct measure of fleet utilisation.
What you gain
- Read the fleet at a glance
- Spot costly idling
- Early warning of towing or outages
How does Safee help you monitor vehicle status?
Safee colours every vehicle on the map by status and works out how each vehicle's time splits between moving, idling, ignition off and towing, over anything from 24 hours to three months. You see at a glance who is working and who is wasting fuel, and you measure utilisation over weeks rather than from a single snapshot.
A field example
A construction-equipment rental firm in Abu Dhabi was planning to buy five new forklifts because demand outstripped supply. It reviewed a month of status data for its 30 forklifts and found eight had spent over 80% of their time with the ignition off at customer sites where work had finished. The firm recovered them for new contracts and dropped the purchase of five machines.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an idle vehicle and a parked one?
An idle vehicle has zero speed with the engine running, so it burns fuel without moving. A parked vehicle has zero speed and the ignition off.
Why does a vehicle show grey in the tracking system?
It has sent no messages within the offline threshold set by the company. Its earlier history remains available.
Is vehicle status the same as vehicle active status?
No. Vehicle status is derived live from tracker data (speed, ignition and connection): moving, idle, ignition off, towing or offline. Active status, shown in Safee as Vehicle Active Status, is recorded by a person and shows whether the vehicle is active, in the workshop, broken down, in an accident, stolen and so on.
