RAG Report
In Arabicتقرير تقييم السائقين بالألوان (RAG)
Grouping drivers into Red, Amber and Green based on a score that combines their violations relative to distance driven.
What is a RAG report in fleet management?
RAG stands for Red, Amber, Green. It turns each driver's violations into one score and one colour, so the safety manager sees at a glance who needs intervention and who deserves recognition. It is widely used in oil and gas and heavy haulage.
In Safee's RAG Report the default score combines acceleration and braking per 100 km, time over the speed limit and seat belt violations, with adjustable colour limits. There is also an SP-2000 version and a monthly four-colour RALG report that adds night driving and fatigue.
How it works
- 1Collect violations, normalise by distance
- 2Score with a fixed formula
- 3Colour each driver by threshold
Why does a RAG report matter in fleet management?
Raw counts mean little to management; "8 drivers in red this month" is enough to act on. A RAG rating focuses supervisors on the risky few, gives a fair basis for bonuses and warnings, and shows clients evidence of risk management.
What you gain
- Clear coaching priorities
- Fair basis for incentives
- Client-ready reporting
How does Safee help you rate drivers by colour (RAG)?
Safee calculates each driver's score and colour automatically and can email the report weekly or monthly. You choose which violations count and where the colour limits sit, so the rating matches what the operator client asks for.
A field example
A chemical haulier in Jubail wanted fewer incidents across 110 drivers without retraining everyone. The first RAG rating put 11 drivers in red, mostly for speeding and seat belt violations. They went through a 6-week coaching programme with a weekly review of their scores. The red group shrank to 3, and recorded incidents fell from 7 a year to 2.
Frequently asked questions
What does each colour mean?
Green is within limits, amber needs watching, and red needs action now, such as coaching or a temporary stand-down.
What is the RALG report?
A monthly four-colour version. Most IVMS violations move a driver to red on the first occurrence, while risk-exposure factors such as night driving only move them to light green.
How is a RAG rating different from a driver scorecard?
A scorecard shows the driver's scores and the violations behind them; RAG condenses them into one colour you can act on.
