Overspeed

In Arabicتجاوز السرعة

In short

Driving above the limit set for the road or the vehicle, the most common and costly driver violation.

What is overspeed in fleet management?

Speeding means a vehicle exceeding a given limit: the road limit, a company limit for that vehicle type, or a lower limit inside a site or residential area. It is measured by count, by time spent over the limit and by top speed.

Many fleets split it into two grades: ordinary speeding and excessive overspeed, which is treated as reckless driving. In Safee each vehicle has its own speed limit in its vehicle properties, and the Speed Inside a Geofence alarm condition can apply a separate limit inside each geofence.

How it works

  1. 1Set the limit per vehicle or zone
  2. 2Check every speed reading against it
  3. 3Alarm and violation go to driver

Why does overspeed matter in fleet management?

Speed lengthens stopping distance and multiplies crash severity, and a truck's fuel use climbs noticeably at higher highway speeds. Speed-camera fines reach the owning company first, so controlling speed internally is cheaper than paying them.

What you gain

  • Fewer, less severe crashes
  • Fewer traffic fines
  • Lower highway fuel use

How does Safee help reduce speeding?

Safee alerts the supervisor the moment a limit is broken, and can text the driver so they slow down straight away. It also totals time over the limit per driver relative to distance, separating a few seconds' slip from someone who drives over the limit all the way.

A field example

Dubai · E-commerce delivery

An e-commerce delivery company in Dubai paid over AED 40,000 in speeding fines in one quarter across 70 vans and motorbikes. It set an internal cap of 100 km/h and began texting drivers the moment they went over. A month later time over the limit was down from 95 to 20 seconds per 100 km. Fines fell 70% the next quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Is keeping to the road limit enough?

Not always. Many companies set trucks and buses a lower limit than the road allows, and a lower one again inside work sites.

What is the difference between speeding and excessive overspeed?

Excessive overspeed is a higher band above the limit, counted as a more serious violation; standards such as SP-2000 treat it as reckless driving.
