Driver Status Monitoring (DSM)
In Arabicمراقبة حالة السائق (DSM)
A driver-facing camera that detects drowsiness, yawning and distraction, warns the driver instantly and keeps a video clip of the event.
What is driver status monitoring (DSM) in fleet management?
Driver Status Monitoring (DSM) uses an in-cab camera that analyses the driver's face, eyes and head movement. When it detects closing eyes, repeated yawning, phone use or looking away from the road, it sounds a warning and raises an alarm. The same technology is often called a driver monitoring system (DMS).
In Safee, DSM alarms arrive with a clip from the driver-facing camera as part of the V-IVMS video telematics service on the Gold licence.
How it works
- 1Camera analyses the driver's face live
- 2Device warns the driver of danger
- 3Platform stores the alarm with video
Why does driver status monitoring (DSM) matter in fleet management?
Drowsiness and distraction precede many serious highway crashes, and speed or braking data only reveal them too late. A real-time warning brings the driver back to alertness, and the video makes each alarm an undisputed fact at review.
What you gain
- Catches drowsiness before a crash
- Video settles any dispute
- Identifies the highest-risk drivers
How does Safee help with driver status monitoring (DSM)?
Safee collects drowsiness and distraction alarms from every vehicle, each with its video clip, so you see the event for yourself before judging. Repeat alarms for the same driver or at the same hours show where the schedule needs changing rather than the driver needing a telling-off.
A field example
A coach operator in Medina carries pilgrims to Makkah on overnight runs. It fitted DSM cameras to 25 coaches and logged 140 drowsiness alarms in the first month, 80% of them between 2 and 5 am. It changed the rota so two drivers swap at the halfway point on night runs, and drowsiness alarms fell to 30 the following month.
Frequently asked questions
Does a DSM camera work at night and with sunglasses?
Most DSM cameras use infrared, so they work at night and with most sunglasses, though some mirrored lenses reduce accuracy.
What is the difference between DSM and ADAS?
DSM watches the driver inside the cab; ADAS watches the road ahead. Many fleets fit both.
