Fuel Sensor Calibration
In Arabicمعايرة حساس الوقود
Turning a fuel sensor's raw reading into real litres, using a table built by filling the tank in measured stages.
What is fuel sensor calibration in fleet management?
A fuel sensor sends a voltage or raw value, not litres. Most tanks are irregular, so the same height does not mean the same volume near the bottom and near the top. The tank is emptied, filled in measured stages, and the sensor reading logged at each stage to build a calibration table.
Each vehicle is calibrated at installation and again whenever the tank changes or the sensor is moved. Safee accepts a table of up to 30 points per vehicle.
How it works
- 1Empty the tank, refill in stages
- 2Log the sensor reading each stage
- 3Map each reading to its volume
Why does fuel sensor calibration matter in fleet management?
Bad calibration corrupts every figure built on it: a 300-litre fill shows as 260, and a 40-litre drain disappears into the error margin. Managers then stop trusting the reports and go back to paper receipts. Good calibration is what makes fill and drain figures fit for holding drivers to account and reconciling invoices.
What you gain
- Accurate litres, not raw values
- Accurate at every tank level
- Figures fit for accountability
How does Safee help with fuel sensor calibration?
Safee converts every raw reading into litres using each vehicle's own calibration table, and its Ignore out of range values option discards readings that fall outside the table. Fill and drain figures then arrive in litres you can set beside a station receipt, not in values only a technician can read.
A field example
A water-tanker contractor in Taif fitted fuel sensors to 35 trucks and logged just two points for each: empty and full. The fill report kept differing from station receipts by 25 to 30 litres per fill. A technician recalibrated each 400-litre tank with ten points. The gap dropped below 2%, and management now uses the report to reconcile fuel invoices.
Frequently asked questions
How many calibration points does a truck tank need?
A regular tank usually needs 5 to 10 points; an irregular one needs more. Extra points near the bottom and top improve accuracy most.
When should a fuel sensor be recalibrated?
After a tank change or a sensor move or replacement, and whenever recorded fills differ consistently from station receipts.
