Alarm Time Tolerance

In Arabicالمهلة الزمنية للإنذار

In short

How long a violation must last before the alarm fires, so that brief, harmless readings are ignored.

What is an alarm time tolerance in fleet management?

Not every out-of-limit reading is a violation: a reefer door opened for a delivery raises the temperature, a speed bump jolts a liquid-level sensor, and a driver needs a few seconds to swipe his card. A grace period requires the condition to persist for a set time before it counts.

It differs from a value tolerance, which is how far a reading may exceed the limit before it counts. The two are often used together in temperature, load and seat-belt alarms.

How it works

  1. 1Reading moves outside the allowed limit
  2. 2Grace-period timer starts
  3. 3Alarm fires if the breach persists

Why does an alarm time tolerance matter in fleet management?

Too short a grace period floods operators with false alarms until they ignore all of them; too long and a failing reefer is noticed only after the load has spoiled. Setting it to the length of normal operations, such as a door opening at delivery, is what makes an alarm worth trusting.

What you gain

  • Fewer false alarms
  • More trust in each alarm
  • Tuned to the real operation

How does Safee help you set alarm time tolerances?

Safee lets you set a separate grace period, labelled Time tolerance, in each alarm condition that supports one, such as temperature, humidity, load and seat belt, so temperature can be tuned to a delivery door opening and seat belts to a few seconds. The result is fewer alarms, and ones operators trust and act on.

A field example

Dubai · Chilled dairy distribution

A dairy distributor in Dubai runs 45 refrigerated trucks, and its temperature alarm fired about 200 times a day until operators stopped reading it. The data showed most were rises of under four minutes while doors were open at delivery. The company set a six-minute grace period and alarms fell to 12 a day. The same week one of them exposed a failing reefer unit, and the load was transferred before it spoiled.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a grace period and a value tolerance?

A grace period is about how long the breach lasts; a value tolerance is about how far the reading may exceed the limit before it counts.

Does a grace period delay genuine alarms?

Yes, by its own length, so keep it short for critical cases such as temperature on pharmaceutical loads.
