Four-Wheel Driving Alarm
In Arabicإنذار الدفع الرباعي
An alarm raised when four-wheel drive is engaged, optionally tied to a speed limit or to set times and places.
What is a four-wheel driving alarm in fleet management?
On part-time four-wheel-drive vehicles, 4WD is meant for sand and rough tracks only. On tarmac or at speed it strains the transfer case and axles and raises fuel use and tyre wear.
The tracker reads the 4WD state from a digital input wired to the vehicle, and the alarm fires when 4WD is engaged outside permitted conditions, such as above a set speed or away from desert work sites.
How it works
- 1Tracker reports the 4WD state
- 2Platform checks speed, time and place
- 3Alarm fires on a breach
Why does a four-wheel driving alarm matter in fleet management?
A transfer-case or axle repair is expensive and takes the vehicle off the road for days. The alarm shows who leaves 4WD engaged on the highway before the habit turns into a breakdown, and it documents misuse if there is a dispute with a driver or a leasing company.
What you gain
- Protects transfer case and axles
- Cuts fuel use and tyre wear
- Alarms that account for place and speed
How does Safee help monitor four-wheel-drive use?
Through its Four Wheel Driving alarm condition, Safee reads the 4WD state from the tracker and raises an alarm when it is engaged above a set speed, outside desert work sites or at set times. These alarms feed the driver-rating reports, so they show up in each driver's regular safety review.
A field example
An oil-field services firm in Ibri running 70 4x4s saw transfer-case repairs double in a year. It set the alarm to fire outside field sites above 60 km/h. The alarms showed 15 drivers leaving 4WD engaged all the way back to the city. After briefings and linking the breach to driver ratings, alarms fell 80% and repairs dropped over the following six months.
Frequently asked questions
Why is four-wheel drive harmful on paved roads?
On part-time systems the front and rear axles are locked to turn at the same speed, so stress builds in the drivetrain on bends where the tyres cannot slip, and fuel use and tyre wear rise.
What does a 4WD alarm need to work?
The tracker must report the 4WD state, usually through a digital input wired to the vehicle's 4WD switch.
