Vehicle Active Status

In Arabicحالة نشاط المركبة

In short

A vehicle's administrative standing in the business: in service, in the workshop, broken down, in an accident, impounded, stolen or sold.

What is vehicle active status in fleet management?

Active status describes a vehicle's standing in the business rather than its movement on the road: in service, under maintenance, broken down, involved in an accident, impounded, stolen or sold. It tells you how many vehicles are genuinely available to work today. Unlike vehicle status (moving, idle, ignition off, towing, offline), which is derived automatically from tracker data, it is set by a person and stays until someone changes it.

Safee calls it Vehicle Active Status, with values such as Active, Accident, Broken, Down, Police impound, Workshop, Stolen and Sold.

How it works

  1. 1An administrator records each vehicle's standing
  2. 2Platform shows the fleet split by status
  3. 3Dispatcher plans on available vehicles

Why does vehicle active status matter in fleet management?

A fleet of 100 vehicles may have only 82 ready to run. Without a recorded active status, dispatchers plan on false numbers, jobs get assigned to vehicles in the workshop, and stolen or sold vehicles distort utilisation figures. Recording it gives an honest availability rate and highlights vehicles that have been off the road too long.

What you gain

  • True fleet availability
  • Cleaner utilisation figures
  • Out-of-service vehicles kept in sight

How does Safee help you record vehicle active status?

Safee lets you record each vehicle's standing, from in service to workshop, accident, impound and sold, and shows how the fleet splits across these states in the Vehicle Active Status widget on the dashboard. Dispatchers know how many vehicles are really available today, and vehicles stuck out of service stand out before they become a silent loss.

A field example

Jubail · Oil-field services

An oil-field services company in Jubail with 75 vehicles sometimes promised clients vehicles that were not available. The maintenance team began updating active status whenever a vehicle entered the workshop, and the dashboard showed 11 under maintenance, four of them waiting over three weeks for parts. Management escalated the parts orders and hired two vehicles temporarily. Availability rose from 85% to 93% within two months.

Frequently asked questions

How is active status different from vehicle status?

Vehicle status is derived live from tracker data such as speed, ignition and connection. Active status records the vehicle's administrative standing, such as workshop, accident or sold.

How do you calculate fleet availability?

Divide the number of vehicles in service by the total registered fleet. If 82 of 100 are in service, availability is 82%.
