Preventive Maintenance
In Arabicالصيانة الوقائية
Servicing done on a planned schedule by distance, engine hours or time, before something breaks.
What is preventive maintenance in fleet management?
Preventive maintenance is planned servicing carried out before a fault occurs: oil and filter changes, brake and tyre checks, air-conditioning and battery service. Intervals come from the manufacturer, adjusted for real conditions. Its opposite is corrective maintenance, which happens after a breakdown.
In Safee, preventive maintenance is built from maintenance tasks that fall due by odometer, date or engine hours. The system watches every vehicle, alerts you when service is due, and records the work and its cost when the task is resolved.
How it works
- 1Service items and intervals defined
- 2Odometers and dates watched automatically
- 3Service done and cost recorded
Why does preventive maintenance matter in fleet management?
A breakdown on the road costs far more than a workshop visit: recovery, rush-priced parts, a late delivery and sometimes an accident. Preventive maintenance turns those surprises into a known, scheduled cost, extends engine and gearbox life, protects resale value and keeps vehicles ready for periodic roadworthiness inspections.
What you gain
- Fewer roadside breakdowns
- Predictable maintenance spend
- Longer engine and vehicle life
How does Safee help with preventive maintenance?
Safee watches distance, engine hours and dates for every vehicle and alerts you when service is due, so you no longer rely on spreadsheets or readings phoned in by drivers. With the cost of each service recorded, the maintenance report shows what every vehicle has cost you.
A field example
A Jeddah cold-chain distributor running 45 reefer trucks had 9 roadside breakdowns in one quarter, and two of them cost a full load. The team set up a preventive programme in Safee with three tasks: oil every 10,000 km, brakes every 20,000 km and a reefer check every 90 days. Two quarters later roadside breakdowns were down to two, with no spoiled loads.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between preventive and corrective maintenance?
Preventive maintenance is planned and done before a failure; corrective maintenance repairs a failure that has already happened, usually at higher cost and with unplanned downtime.
How often should fleet trucks get preventive maintenance?
Start from the manufacturer's interval, then shorten it where heat, dust and heavy loads justify it, which is common in the Gulf. Base the adjustment on actual distance and engine hours.
Can you run preventive maintenance without telematics?
Yes, with spreadsheets and driver-reported readings, but it slips as the fleet grows. Telematics reads distance and engine hours automatically and alerts on time.
