Time-Based Maintenance
In Arabicالصيانة حسب الزمن
Scheduling service at fixed time intervals, every three or six months, regardless of distance or engine hours.
What is time-based maintenance in fleet management?
Some parts age with time even when barely used: batteries in the heat, rubber hoses and drive belts, coolant and brake fluid, air-conditioning filters. Some checks are calendar-based by nature, such as fire extinguishers, reefer units and safety equipment.
In Safee this is the Periodic Time Elapsed trigger, which fires an alarm each time the set period passes and repeats without being tied to a single date.
How it works
- 1Period between checks set
- 2Time since last service counted
- 3Alarm when period has passed
Why does time-based maintenance matter in fleet management?
Low-use vehicles are the ones that get forgotten. A standby car or a school bus parked through summer never reaches its kilometre-based service, yet its battery and fluids still degrade. Time-based scheduling makes sure every vehicle in the fleet is checked regularly and safety inspections are not missed.
What you gain
- Low-use vehicles never forgotten
- Fits periodic safety inspections
- Covers parts that age with time
How does Safee help with time-based maintenance?
Safee counts the time since each vehicle's last service and alerts you when the period is up, even if the vehicle has not moved. Standby vehicles and buses parked for the summer are not forgotten, and safety checks are not missed.
A field example
An Abu Dhabi school bus operator with 90 buses running short routes and parked for two months in summer never reached its kilometre-based service points. It set time-based service every 90 days for brakes, air-conditioning and battery. In the first school week after summer only one bus broke down, against seven in the same week the previous year.
Frequently asked questions
When should I use time-based rather than distance-based maintenance?
For low-use vehicles, for parts that age with time such as batteries and fluids, and for calendar-driven checks like safety equipment.
What is the difference between periodic time-based service and service on a set date?
Service on a set date (the Specific Date trigger) falls due once, on that day; periodic time-based service repeats every time the period passes.
