Remote Immobilisation
In Arabicشلّ حركة المركبة عن بُعد
A command from the platform to the tracker that breaks the starter circuit, so the engine cannot start until a release command is sent.
What is remote immobilisation in fleet management?
The tracker controls a relay on the starter or fuel-pump circuit. When an immobilise command arrives, the relay opens and the engine will not crank once switched off; a release (de-immobilise) command restores normal operation. A safe installation prevents restarting rather than cutting a running engine.
In Safee the immobilise command is sent from the platform like other remote commands, and it has its own Immobilization Permission, given only to named users.
How it works
- 1Authorised user sends immobilise command
- 2Tracker opens the starter relay
- 3Release command restores starting
Why does remote immobilisation matter in fleet management?
When a vehicle is stolen or a rental is not returned, immobilisation holds it where it stands instead of chasing it, so recovery is faster and cheaper, and some insurers take it into account. It is also a sensitive control: misused, it can halt a live operation or strand a driver, which is why it stays in few hands.
What you gain
- Faster stolen-vehicle recovery
- Deters unauthorised use
- Restricted to named users
How does Safee help with remote immobilisation?
Safee sends the immobilise command to the vehicle, retries if it is out of coverage, and logs every command with its date and result. Because immobilisation has a permission of its own, it stays with a few managers, so you can act fast on a theft while keeping tight control of who makes that call.
A field example
A Al Khobar car-rental firm had 9 cars more than a week overdue, with renters not answering calls. It sent the immobilise command to each car once the map showed it parked with ignition off. Within 3 days the renters of 7 cars got in touch and returned them, and the other 2 were collected from their recorded locations. Average recovery time for overdue rentals fell from 18 days to 4.
Frequently asked questions
Can a vehicle be immobilised while it is moving?
A safe installation only prevents restarting after the engine is switched off; it does not kill a running engine. Safee may also refuse the command when the vehicle's speed is high.
Does immobilisation need extra hardware?
Yes: a tracker that supports the command and a relay wired into the starter or fuel-pump circuit.
How is the vehicle released afterwards?
A release command is sent from the platform; the tracker closes the relay and the engine starts normally.
