Seat Belt Monitoring

In Arabicمراقبة حزام الأمان

In short

Detecting driving with the seat belt unfastened, via a sensor wired to the tracker, and logging it as a violation against the driver.

What is seat belt monitoring in fleet management?

Seat belt monitoring means the tracker reads belt status from the seat sensor. If the vehicle moves above a set speed with the belt unfastened for longer than a tolerance, a violation is recorded against the driver. It is one of the first things oil and gas operators require from an IVMS.

It needs a device wired to the belt sensor. Safee monitors driver and passenger belts separately, with the Driver seatbelt and Passenger Seat Belt alarm conditions; this helps on buses and staff transport.

How it works

  1. 1Sensor reads belt status
  2. 2Speed and duration are checked
  3. 3Alarm and violation go to driver

Why does seat belt monitoring matter in fleet management?

A seat belt is the cheapest life-saver in a crash, yet not wearing one remains among the most common violations. Under many oil and gas contracts it can get a driver removed from site, so catching it early protects both the driver and the contract.

What you gain

  • Less severe crash injuries
  • Meets contract requirements
  • Fewer traffic fines

How does Safee help with seat belt monitoring?

Safee alerts the supervisor when a driver is driving unbelted and counts time without a belt in the RAG Report. The few drivers who repeat it stand out, so coaching goes to them rather than to everyone.

A field example

Sohar · Port services

A client at Sohar port declined to renew a haulier's contract after spotting drivers without belts inside the port. The haulier started seat belt monitoring on 45 trucks with a 15 km/h threshold and a 20-second tolerance. The first week logged 210 violations, half of them by just 6 drivers. After written warnings and daily review, violations fell to 12 a week and the contract was renewed.

Frequently asked questions

Does seat belt monitoring work with any tracker?

No. The device must be wired to the belt sensor and able to report its status, otherwise no violation is ever recorded.

Can passenger belts be monitored?

Yes, if the seats have sensors wired to the device. It is useful on buses and staff transport.
