Stop Period

In Arabicفترة التوقف

In short

The time elapsed since a vehicle stopped moving, whether its engine is running or switched off.

What is a stop period in fleet management?

Stop period measures how long a vehicle has been standing still, whatever the engine is doing: parked with the ignition off, or waiting at a drop-off with it running. Everyday operational questions rest on it, such as how long a truck waited at a customer and who overran the allowed stop time.

In Safee the Stop period column of the messaging table shows the time since each vehicle last stopped moving, alongside its position and status.

How it works

  1. 1Vehicle speed drops to zero
  2. 2Stop period starts counting
  3. 3Counting stops when movement resumes

Why does a stop period matter in fleet management?

Long, unplanned stops eat into working hours and push back the next deliveries. Knowing who has been standing for an hour without reason lets you call the driver immediately, exposes unauthorised visits, and shows which sites are slow to unload so you can reschedule with them.

What you gain

  • Spot long waits immediately
  • Expose unauthorised stops
  • Measure time on site

How does Safee help you monitor stop periods?

Safee shows how long each vehicle has been stopped next to its status colour, so you can tell at once a wait with the engine running from parking with it off. Over time, recurring long stops point to the sites that are slow to unload, so you can take it up with the customer instead of blaming the driver.

A field example

Hail · Building materials

A block and cement haulier in Hail kept getting complaints that second loads reached construction sites late. The supervisor reviewed the trucks' stop periods and found them standing over two hours at two sites because no unloading crew was ready. Management agreed with the contractors to have crews waiting on arrival. Average time on site fell from 130 to 45 minutes and each truck gained one extra trip a day.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between stop period and idle time?

Stop period counts from the moment movement stops, whatever the engine is doing. Idle time counts only standing time with the engine running.

How is stop period different from dwell time?

Dwell time measures how long a vehicle stays inside a defined site, from entry to exit, and can include moving around within it. Stop period measures standing still anywhere, from the moment the wheels stop.

Does stop period keep counting after the engine is switched off?

Yes. It keeps counting until the vehicle moves again.
