Towing

In Arabicسحب المركبة

In short

A vehicle moving with its ignition off, pulled by a tow truck or carried on a flatbed, detected by the tracker from speed and ignition.

What is towing in fleet management?

A vehicle cannot cover distance with its engine off unless it is being towed or carried. So speed above zero combined with ignition off signals towing, or a fault in how the ignition wire is connected to the tracker.

Safee shows this state in red, labelled Towing, and counts its duration in the vehicle's status history.

How it works

  1. 1Speed above zero, ignition off
  2. 2Platform marks the vehicle as Towing
  3. 3Shown red and towing time logged

Why does towing matter in fleet management?

An unexpected tow can mean theft, an impound or a breakdown the driver never reported. Catching it within minutes gives you a chance to act before the vehicle disappears or impound fees build up. Repeated towing on a vehicle doing normal trips usually points to a bad installation, which also corrupts idle and engine-hour data.

What you gain

  • Catch theft by towing
  • Record roadside breakdowns
  • Expose faulty installations

How does Safee help detect towing?

Safee detects towing automatically when a vehicle moves with its ignition off, shows it red on the map and logs how long the tow lasted. You know about a tow while it is happening, can follow the vehicle to wherever it ends up, and keep a record of when it started and where it finished.

A field example

Jeddah · Car rental

A car-rental company in Jeddah used to discover stolen cars days after the fact. The night-shift controller began watching for any vehicle showing as towed on the map. One night an SUV turned red, moving at 60 km/h with the ignition off, almost certainly on a flatbed. The authorities were given its live location and the car was recovered within two hours; this check is now standard on every night shift.

Frequently asked questions

How does a tracking system know a vehicle is being towed?

The tracker reports speed above zero while the ignition is off, and the platform classifies that as towing.

Why does my vehicle show as towed when it is driving normally?

Most often the ignition wire is not connected to the tracker, or is connected to the wrong point, so the system always sees the engine as off.
