Ignition Signal
In Arabicإشارة الإشعال
The signal that tells the tracker whether the vehicle's key is on or off; vehicle status and working hours are built on it.
What is an ignition signal in fleet management?
A tracker reads ignition from the vehicle's ignition or ACC line, or from a digital input when it has no dedicated line. Combined with speed, this signal is enough to tell what the vehicle is doing.
In Safee, zero speed with ignition off shows as the Ignition off status, zero speed with ignition on as Idle, and speed with ignition off as Towing. Working time, number of stops and stop period are all calculated from it.
How it works
- 1Tracker reads the ignition line
- 2Signal combined with speed
- 3Status set, durations calculated
Why does an ignition signal matter in fleet management?
Idle figures, working hours and engine-hours maintenance all rest on this signal. If it is wrong, a running vehicle looks parked, idling appears that never happened, and you lose your clearest indicator of wasted fuel and of vehicles started when they should not be.
What you gain
- Basis of idle-time figures
- Accurate working hours
- Flags towing and forbidden starts
How does Safee help you use the ignition signal?
Safee builds each vehicle's status on the map, its working hours, idling and stops on the ignition signal. It can alert you at once when an engine is started in restricted hours (the Ignition alarm condition), or when a vehicle moves with its ignition off, a sign of towing or theft.
A field example
A school-bus operator in Sohar suspected buses were left running outside schools to keep the air-conditioning on. Ignition and speed data showed an average of 70 minutes' idling per bus per day. A ten-minute limit with an alarm when it was exceeded brought it down to 25 minutes and saved about 8% on diesel.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the ignition line and ACC?
Both follow the key position, but ACC is also live in accessory mode, so the technician picks the line that matches the engine actually running.
Why does a running vehicle show as stopped?
Usually the ignition is not wired or is on the wrong line. Test it by starting the engine and watching the vehicle's status on the map.
