IMEI Number
In Arabicرقم IMEI
A unique 15-digit number identifying each tracker, which the platform uses to know which vehicle every message came from.
What is an IMEI number in fleet management?
IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity. Every device that connects to a mobile network has one, and no two devices share it. A tracker sends its messages tagged with this number, and the platform attributes them to the vehicle linked to it.
That is why the IMEI is recorded when a device is added to Safee, and a single wrong digit cuts the vehicle's data off or assigns it to another vehicle.
How it works
- 1Tracker sends a message with its IMEI
- 2Platform finds the linked vehicle
- 3Data shown under that vehicle
Why does an IMEI number matter in fleet management?
One wrong digit means a silent vehicle on the map, or worse, one vehicle's data appearing under another, with its violations and fuel charged to the wrong truck. The IMEI is also the first thing support asks for when chasing any connection problem.
What you gain
- Unique identity per device
- Data matched to the right vehicle
- Faster fault tracing
How does Safee help you use the IMEI number?
Safee matches every message to the right vehicle through its IMEI, and shows which vehicle each device is assigned to, so a number linked to the wrong vehicle is caught before data gets mixed up. You can also search by IMEI directly in the messaging table when working through a device issue with support.
A field example
A port-logistics company in Salalah added 120 trucks to Safee in one bulk import, and 4 showed no data at all. A check of the import file revealed two transposed digits in those devices' IMEIs, copied wrongly from the supplier's invoice. Correcting them from the device labels got the four trucks reporting within minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I find a tracker's IMEI?
On the device label and its box; once connected, it also appears in the device's messages on the platform.
Does the IMEI change if I swap the SIM?
No. The IMEI belongs to the device; the SIM has its own number, the ICCID.
Can two devices share an IMEI?
They should not; each number is assigned at manufacture. A duplicate on the platform is almost always a data-entry error.
