Accumulated Driving Hours
In Arabicساعات القيادة المتراكمة
The total time a driver spends driving over a day or a week, checked against a maximum set by the company or client.
What are accumulated driving hours in fleet management?
Accumulated driving hours are the total time a driver actually drives in a set period, whatever breaks fall in between. A driver can stop every two hours as policy requires and still finish the day after 13 hours at the wheel; a continuous-driving limit alone will not catch that.
So driving-hours and rest-period rules set two limits: one per stint (continuous driving) and one for the daily or weekly total (accumulated driving hours). Safee adds up each driver's driving time over the period you define and raises an alarm when the limit is passed.
How it works
- 1System totals each driver's driving time
- 2Compares the total with the limit
- 3Alerts the supervisor on a breach
Why do accumulated driving hours matter in fleet management?
Accumulated fatigue does not show in a single hour; it builds over a long day or a busy week, and that is when the worst crashes happen. Holding the limit protects the driver and the load, gives you a record to show clients and insurers at audit, and exposes drivers who are handed more trips than the rest.
What you gain
- Catches fatigue that breaks hide
- Audit-ready record for clients
- Fairer spread of trips
How does Safee help monitor accumulated driving hours?
Safee's Driver Excessive Accumulative Driving alarm condition totals each driver's actual driving time automatically and alerts the supervisor the moment a daily or weekly limit is passed. Breaches are collected in a per-driver report, so you see who is carrying too much and have a documented record ready for client audits.
A field example
A chemical haulier in Jubail saw that its drivers took their breaks regularly, yet minor incidents kept clustering at the end of the week. It set a 10-hour daily driving limit and found 9 of its 40 drivers breaching it more than 3 times a week because of extra return runs. Moving the return runs to the evening shift cut breaches to two a month within a quarter.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between accumulated driving hours and continuous driving?
Continuous driving measures each stint between breaks; accumulated driving hours are the total for the day or week, however many breaks fall in between.
How many driving hours a day is a safe limit?
There is no single figure; regulation and company and client policy set it. In Oman, for example, a 2020 decision allows 9 hours a day, extendable to 10 hours twice a week, the same as EU rules, and a client may require a stricter limit.
