Continuous Driving
In Arabicالقيادة المتواصلة
How long a driver drives without stopping; safety policies cap it and require a rest break once the cap is reached.
What is continuous driving in fleet management?
Continuous driving is the driving time between two breaks. Safety policies set the longest stint allowed and the break that must follow, for example 30 minutes after 4 hours, or 15 minutes every 2 hours under some oil and gas policies. A stop only counts as rest once it reaches the required length.
Safee measures every stint for each driver, and the Driver Excessive Continuous Driving alarm condition raises an alarm when the limit is passed without enough rest. The total for the day or week is a separate measure: accumulated driving hours.
How it works
- 1System measures every driving stint
- 2Checks the rest taken was long enough
- 3Raises an alarm on a breach
Why does continuous driving matter in fleet management?
Concentration fades after hours of monotonous driving, especially on long desert roads and in the midday heat. Enforced breaks cut drowsiness crashes; they are also a standard clause in oil and gas contracts and major clients' safety rules, and repeated breaches can cost a contractor the contract.
What you gain
- Enforces rest before fatigue
- Meets client safety requirements
- Alerts supervisors in time
How does Safee help monitor continuous driving?
Safee tracks every driver's continuous driving time with no manual effort and alerts the safety officer the moment a limit is passed, so he can call the driver and tell him to stop. Breaches are collected per driver in the Driver driving violations report, which you can show at a client audit.
A field example
An oil operator in Oman requires contractors' drivers not to drive more than 4 hours without a break. An oil-field services company in Muscat applied that limit with a 30-minute rest and logged 47 breaches in the first month, mostly on the Muscat to Fahud road. It set up two fixed rest stops on the route and tied the monthly bonus to zero breaches; breaches fell to 5 by the third month and the company passed the client's safety audit.
Frequently asked questions
How long can a driver usually drive without a break?
In Oman, a 2020 decision requires a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving, as EU rules do, and some oil and gas operators set a shorter limit. The final figure depends on regulation and company or client policy.
Does stopping at traffic lights or in congestion count as a break?
No. A break is a full stop that lasts as long as the policy requires; short stops still count as driving.
