Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

In Arabicالنظام المتقدم لمساعدة السائق (ADAS)

In short

Technology that watches the road and warns the driver of imminent danger, such as closing on the vehicle ahead or drifting out of lane.

What is an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) in fleet management?

ADAS covers any technology that helps a driver avoid danger, from automatic emergency braking in new cars to audible warnings. In fleets it usually means a forward-facing camera fitted to a truck or bus that analyses the road in real time and warns the driver when he gets too close to the vehicle ahead or leaves his lane without indicating.

In Safee these warnings reach the platform as alarms through the V-IVMS video telematics service, each with a video clip of the moment.

How it works

  1. 1Forward camera analyses the road live
  2. 2Device warns the driver of danger
  3. 3Platform stores the alarm with video

Why does an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) matter in fleet management?

Rear-end collisions and lane drift are among the costliest truck crashes on highways. Two seconds of early warning is sometimes enough to avoid impact, and the attached video settles insurance disputes and shows who tailgates before a crash happens.

What you gain

  • Warns before impact, not after
  • Video evidence for every alarm
  • Exposes habitual tailgating

How does Safee help you use ADAS warnings?

Safee brings ADAS warnings from every truck into one place, each with its video clip, so you can see who keeps closing in dangerously, on which road and at what time. Warnings stop being beeps in the cab and become a clear list of who needs coaching.

A field example

Dammam · Cement and building materials

A cement haulier in Dammam had 6 rear-end collisions in a year on the Jubail highway. It fitted ADAS cameras to 35 trucks and found that 70% of close-following warnings came from just 8 drivers. The supervisor reviewed each driver's clips with him; warnings halved within two months and there were no rear-end collisions in the following six months.

Frequently asked questions

Does ADAS stop the vehicle automatically?

Retrofit systems fitted to fleet vehicles only warn the driver; they do not touch the brakes or steering. Automatic braking comes built in from the vehicle manufacturer.

What is the difference between ADAS and DSM?

ADAS watches the road ahead of the vehicle; DSM watches the driver for drowsiness, yawning and distraction.

Can ADAS be fitted to an older truck?

Yes. Retrofit ADAS cameras mount on the windscreen and work on most vehicles regardless of age.
