Digital Input

In Arabicالمدخل الرقمي

In short

A tracker terminal wired to a switch or sensor that reports only on or off, telling the platform the status of something in the vehicle.

What is a digital input in fleet management?

Every tracker has a few digital inputs. Each is wired to a vehicle circuit or a sensor and reports just two states: high or low. That is how the platform knows whether a door is open, a seat belt fastened, the panic button pressed, or a mixer drum or crane running.

Input numbering and functions differ from model to model, so in Safee each input is mapped to its function, such as SOS or driver seatbelt in Augmented Arguments, and to what its high state means.

How it works

  1. 1Sensor wired to a tracker input
  2. 2Input switches state
  3. 3Platform translates state into meaning

Why does a digital input matter in fleet management?

Digital inputs make the tracker a source of vehicle and equipment status, not just a dot on the map. Set them up wrongly and the panic alarm never arrives, an unfastened belt shows as fastened, and equipment hours are miscounted, so decisions rest on data that is upside down.

What you gain

  • Equipment use measured, not guessed
  • Reveals equipment status
  • Alarms based on real events

How does Safee help you use digital inputs?

Safee turns the input signal into something a supervisor reads at a glance: door open, drum turning, panic button pressed. Instant alarms, equipment working-hours reports and fridge status are built on it, so you know what is happening inside the vehicle, not just where it is.

A field example

Riyadh · Ready-mix concrete

A ready-mix plant in Riyadh had no idea how many hours each mixer drum actually turned. Technicians wired the drum-rotation sensor to a digital input on the tracker, and five drums turned out to keep spinning for over an hour after discharge. The plant added an alarm for it, and fuel use on those trucks dropped 7%.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a digital and an analogue input?

A digital input gives only two states, on or off; an analogue input gives a graded value such as fuel level or weight.

Why is my panic-button alarm not arriving?

Usually the button is wired to a different input from the one mapped to the panic function on the platform. Test the button at installation and confirm the alarm arrives.

How many digital inputs does a tracker need?

Two or three cover most light vehicles; trucks with door, equipment and panic-button sensors need four or more.
