GPS Jamming

In Arabicالتشويش على إشارة GPS

In short

Using a device that broadcasts noise on GPS or mobile-network frequencies so the tracker cannot fix its position or send it.

What is GPS jamming in fleet management?

Jammers are small, cheap and usually plug into the cigarette socket. They drown out the already faint satellite signal so the tracker loses its fix, or block the mobile link so messages never arrive. They are used to hide private trips or to steal cargo or fuel, and using one without a licence breaks telecom rules in most countries.

Some trackers detect jamming and send a dedicated event. Even without one, the symptoms show in the data: a satellite count dropping to zero, or messages stopping while the engine runs.

How it works

  1. 1Jammer blocks satellite or network signal
  2. 2Tracker detects it or goes silent
  3. 3Platform alerts or shows the gap

Why does GPS jamming matter in fleet management?

Jamming opens a gap in the record at the worst moment: during a theft or an unauthorised detour. If it is caught late, the cargo is gone and the insurer wants proof you cannot give. A driver who jams once without being caught will do it again.

What you gain

  • Exposes attempts to hide vehicles
  • Protects cargo and fuel
  • Evidence for theft investigations

How does Safee help you detect GPS jamming?

If the tracker sends a jamming event, Safee can raise it as an instant alarm. Either way the symptoms show up in Safee: a vehicle whose satellite count drops to zero on an open road, or whose messages stop and then resume far away. You can see which vehicles deserve an investigation.

A field example

Riyadh · Parcel delivery

A Riyadh parcel carrier noticed 4 vans vanishing from the map for about 40 minutes on several days while their engines were running. The vehicle dashboard's Satellite signal statistic showed the satellite count dropping to zero at the same spots. Jammers were found in the cigarette sockets; drivers were using the vans for private deliveries. After the investigation, and with the trackers set to send a jamming event, the gaps stopped within two weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Can a tracker detect jamming?

Many modern trackers detect GPS or GSM jamming and send an event, depending on the model and its configuration.

How do I tell jamming from poor coverage?

Poor coverage recurs at the same places for every vehicle; jamming follows one vehicle or driver, at unusual times and places.

Are jammers legal?

In most countries, the Gulf states included, their sale and use are controlled by the telecom regulator and not allowed without a licence.
