Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Sensor
In Arabicحساس البلوتوث منخفض الطاقة (BLE)
A small battery-powered wireless sensor that sends readings such as temperature, fuel level or door status to the vehicle's tracker over Bluetooth Low Energy, with no cables.
What is a bluetooth low energy (BLE) sensor in fleet management?
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), introduced with Bluetooth 4.0 in 2010, sends small amounts of data over short distances on very little power, so a sensor can run for years on one battery. In fleets, BLE sensors measure temperature and humidity in a cargo box, fuel level in a tank, door opening and tyre pressure, and broadcast their readings to the tracker, which acts as the gateway to the platform.
Because nothing is wired, installation takes minutes and sensors are easy to move when a box or trailer is replaced. The trade-offs are limited range, usually a few metres to a few tens of metres through a vehicle body, and batteries that must be watched and replaced.
How it works
- 1Sensor takes a reading
- 2Reading broadcast over Bluetooth
- 3Tracker forwards it to the platform
Why does a bluetooth low energy (BLE) sensor matter in fleet management?
Running a temperature probe into a refrigerated box or a door switch into a trailer takes hours, and cables are the first thing to break when cargo is handled roughly or a box is replaced. BLE sensors remove most of that work and most of those failures, which makes temperature and door monitoring practical on vans, rented boxes and trailers that move between tractors. For cold-chain fleets, that means fewer gaps in the temperature record that clients and regulators check.
What you gain
- Installation in minutes
- No cables to break
- Easy to move between vehicles
How does Safee help you use BLE sensors?
Safee reads BLE temperature sensors, with a scale and a valid range set so that any value outside it is ignored; BLE fuel sensors, either as raw data calibrated in the platform or as a level already in litres; and BLE magnetic door sensors, each mapped to a sensor number on the vehicle. Their readings then work like any other: in temperature, fuel and door data, alarms and reports. Check with the Safee team which tracker models support the sensors you plan to use.
A field example
A dairy distributor in Buraidah ran 35 refrigerated vans with wired temperature probes, and broken cables left gaps in the temperature record almost every week. It replaced them with two BLE temperature sensors in each box and a BLE door sensor on each rear door. Installation took under an hour per van instead of half a day, and hours of missing temperature data across the fleet fell from about 120 a month to under 10.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a BLE sensor battery last?
Usually two to five years, depending on the model, the transmission rate and the heat, and Gulf temperatures shorten it. Note the installation date so batteries are replaced before they run out.
Can one tracker read several BLE sensors?
Yes. Most BLE-capable trackers read several sensors at once, such as two temperature sensors, a fuel sensor and door sensors, each with its own ID. The exact number depends on the tracker model.
