Idle Report

In Arabicتقرير الخمول

In short

A report that totals the periods each vehicle stood still with its engine running, showing how long, where and with which driver.

What is an idle report in fleet management?

Idling means the engine is running while the vehicle is not moving. An idle report pulls those periods out of the trip data and totals them by vehicle, driver or location, so you see how many engine hours produced no distance, and where.

It is not the same as the live Idle status on the Monitoring page. That tells you a vehicle is idling now; the report adds up weeks of idling and exposes the habits and places behind it.

How it works

  1. 1Tracker sees ignition on, zero speed
  2. 2System measures each idle period
  3. 3Report totals by vehicle and site

Why does an idle report matter in fleet management?

An idling engine burns fuel and adds engine hours that bring services forward. In a Gulf summer the usual cause is a driver keeping the air-conditioning running while he waits. An hour a day on one truck can mean hundreds of litres a year, a cost that appears on no invoice unless you measure it.

What you gain

  • Exposes fuel burnt at zero distance
  • Ranks drivers by idling
  • Pinpoints long waiting sites

How does Safee help you measure and reduce idling?

Safee calculates idling for every trip and totals it in its idle reports, such as the Idle Time Report and the Advanced Vehicle Idle Report, by vehicle, driver or location, so you can go straight to the worst cases. For vehicles with fuel data it also shows fuel burnt while idling, turning minutes into litres and money. The report can reach the operations team by email every week.

A field example

Dammam · Cold-chain food distribution

A chilled-food distributor in Dammam running 40 refrigerated trucks saw its diesel bill climb as summer arrived. The idle report showed an average of 2.3 hours of idling per truck per day, half of it in the depot yard before loading. The company reshuffled loading slots so trucks arrived only when the dock was ready, and set a 10-minute idling limit. Two months later daily idling was down to 1.1 hours and monthly diesel use had fallen by about 6%.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as idling in a fleet report?

Any period when the ignition is on and the vehicle's speed is zero. Engine off at zero speed is a stop, not idling.

How much idling is acceptable?

It depends on the work. Many fleets set a target as a share of engine-on time and look into any vehicle well above the fleet average.

How do I reduce idling in my fleet?

Start with the sites where idling concentrates and fix the causes: loading slots, customer waiting times and air-conditioning during breaks. Then set an idling limit that raises an alarm when exceeded.
