IVMS Policy
In Arabicسياسة IVMS
A company's written rules for in-vehicle monitoring: which events are violations, their thresholds, how data is reviewed and what follows a breach.
What is an IVMS policy in fleet management?
Fitting IVMS is not enough; oil and gas clients expect a written policy behind it. A typical policy sets speed limits by road type, defines harsh braking and acceleration, makes seat belts and driver ID mandatory, fixes how often data is reviewed and lays out graduated consequences from coaching to removal from driving.
Many contractors build on their client's standard; Oman's SP-2000, for example, requires operators to run an IVMS management system that includes a driver merit system.
How it works
- 1Thresholds and consequences written down
- 2Turned into alarms and score bands
- 3Regular review and action
Why does an IVMS policy matter in fleet management?
A policy that is enforced unevenly fails audits and loses drivers' trust. Turning its clauses into rules in the system makes enforcement fair, repeatable and easy to evidence.
What you gain
- Same rules for every driver
- Audit-ready evidence
- Clear consequence ladder
How does Safee help you enforce an IVMS policy?
Safee turns policy clauses into alarms and score thresholds that apply the same limit to every driver at every site. RAG reports, which rank drivers by colour, reach supervisors on a schedule, so the monthly review and the next step rest on numbers.
A field example
A drilling-support contractor in Muscat had IVMS on 120 vehicles, but each site manager judged violations differently. It wrote one policy based on its client's standard, set alarms and score bands to match, and had the report sent monthly. Disputes over penalties stopped, and drivers in red fell from 14 to 5 within two quarters.
Frequently asked questions
What should an IVMS policy include?
Speed limits, harsh-event definitions, seat-belt and driver-ID rules, review frequency and a graduated consequence ladder.
How often should IVMS data be reviewed?
Weekly by supervisors and monthly by management is a common rhythm, unless the client contract sets its own.
