Operating Card

In Arabicبطاقة التشغيل

In short

A permit the Transport General Authority issues for each vehicle in a licensed transport activity, allowing it to work in that activity; it must be renewed before it expires.

What is an operating card in fleet management?

In Saudi Arabia, a vehicle working in a transport activity regulated by the Transport General Authority, such as goods transport by truck, needs an operating card that ties it to the licensed operator. The card has an expiry date, and a vehicle with an expired card cannot legally work in the activity.

The authority has linked renewal to tracking: since 2019, existing trucks have had to fit WASL-linked tracking and weight monitoring when renewing their cards.

How it works

  1. 1Expiry date recorded per card
  2. 2Alert as the date approaches
  3. 3Renew and update the date

Why does an operating card matter in fleet management?

A truck with an expired card is off the road legally, so every missed renewal takes capacity out of service and may bring a fine. Because renewal is tied to WASL linking, it is also a periodic test of whether the vehicle's tracking is healthy.

What you gain

  • No vehicles working on expired cards
  • Renewals planned, not rushed
  • WASL link ready for renewal

How does Safee help you track operating-card expiry dates?

Safee keeps each vehicle's operating-card expiry date, lists vehicles whose date is near or past in the Expiries Explorer, and alerts the people responsible in the system or by email. Renewals are planned ahead instead of discovered at a checkpoint, with the WASL link checked beforehand.

A field example

Riyadh · Long-haul freight

A carrier running 210 trucks between Riyadh and Jeddah found three trucks had stood idle for a week because their operating cards had lapsed unnoticed. It entered expiry dates for the whole fleet, reviewed the list of cards nearing expiry every Sunday and checked WASL status for any truck due within 30 days. Over the following year no truck lost a working day to an expired card.
