Automatic Trailer Identification

In Arabicالتعرّف الآلي على المقطورة

In short

Knowing automatically which trailer is coupled to which tractor the moment it is hitched or dropped, with no manual entry.

What is automatic trailer identification in fleet management?

In heavy-haul fleets a trailer may be pulled by several tractors in a week. Automatic identification means the trailer's ID reaches the tractor's tracker on coupling, so the system knows which tractor is pulling which trailer without relying on the driver or the office.

The ID usually comes from a tag on the trailer that the tractor's device reads when coupled. In Safee the serial number of a KIMAX weight unit fitted to the trailer can also serve, since it is sent with every weight reading.

How it works

  1. 1Trailer sends its ID on coupling
  2. 2System assigns it to that tractor
  3. 3Uncoupling ends and logs assignment

Why does automatic trailer identification matter in fleet management?

When you do not know which tractor has which trailer, trailers go missing in yards, distance, weight and violations land on the wrong asset, and trailer maintenance slips because nobody knows its mileage. Manual assignment breaks down on the first busy shift.

What you gain

  • Accurate coupling history
  • Weight and distance on the right trailer
  • No manual entry by drivers

How does Safee help with automatic trailer identification?

Safee recognises a trailer the moment it is coupled and logs every hitch and drop, so distance, weight and alarms are charged to the right trailer. Its movement between tractors is ready in the Trailer Vehicles History report, showing which trailers sit idle and which are overdue for service.

A field example

Jubail · Petrochemical haulage

A haulier in Jubail with 45 tractors and 70 trailers swapped between plants relied on a paper sheet kept by the yard supervisor. The first reconciliation showed a quarter of coupling records were wrong and 9 trailers had not moved for over a month without anyone noticing. After switching to automatic identification, pairing records became accurate with no manual entry. Putting the idle trailers back to work let the company end the hire of 6 rented trailers.

Frequently asked questions

How does the system know which trailer is coupled?

From the trailer ID sent by the tractor's tracker on coupling, or from the serial of the weight unit fitted to the trailer.

Can trailers still be assigned manually?

Yes, by hand or from an external system through an API, but automatic assignment is more reliable in fleets that swap trailers daily.
