Weight Tracking
In Arabicتتبع الوزن
Measuring a vehicle's weight and its load while it works, through sensors on the axles or suspension, without stopping at a weighbridge.
What is weight tracking in fleet management?
Weight tracking, also called on-board weighing, measures weight with sensors fitted to the truck itself. On air suspension a pressure transducer reads the air-bag pressure; on leaf springs, load cells measure axle deflection. Sensors are calibrated on a weighbridge, first empty and then with a known load.
In Safee every tractor, trailer and axle has a total weight and a load weight, with a tampering indicator showing whether the reading can be trusted. KIMAX digital sensors, analogue sensors and ROADEK sensors are supported.
How it works
- 1Sensors measure load on the axles
- 2Tracker sends reading with location
- 3Platform converts it using calibration
Why does weight tracking matter in fleet management?
Most heavy-haul contracts are priced by weight, and overload fines are issued by weight. Seeing the load live exposes trucks leaving short, cargo dropped at the wrong place and axles over their limit before a roadside weigh station finds them. It also saves a weighbridge stop on every trip.
What you gain
- Every truck's load, no weighbridge
- Invoicing on actual weight
- Short and over loads caught
How does Safee help with weight tracking?
Safee shows the load of every truck and trailer live, with a chart of when and where it went up or down. Trailer calibration stays with the trailer, so readings remain right whichever tractor pulls it. The Load weight limit, Loading and Offloading alarm conditions are all built on this data.
A field example
A waste contractor in Medina runs 30 compactor trucks and is paid by the municipality per tonne collected from each district. Once weight sensors were fitted, the data showed trucks returning from 8 routes at under 40% of capacity. The contractor merged those routes into 5 and reallocated the districts, freeing 3 trucks and their drivers, and now gives the municipality a weight report for each district.
Frequently asked questions
Does weight tracking replace a weighbridge?
Not as legal proof, but it gives you the load at every moment and place. Sensors are normally calibrated on a weighbridge and checked periodically.
How accurate are axle weight sensors?
Well-calibrated systems typically come within about 1 to 3% of a weighbridge; accuracy drops if calibration is neglected or air lines are damaged.
Do I recalibrate a trailer every time it changes tractor?
No. Safee stores trailer configuration and calibration separately from the tractor, so they follow the trailer to any tractor that pulls it.
