Out-of-Hours Driving

In Arabicالقيادة خارج ساعات العمل

In short

A company vehicle moving outside the hours and days it is allowed to work, usually personal use or driving that safety policy forbids.

What is out-of-hours driving in fleet management?

A company gives each vehicle a working window, say 6 am to 6 pm, Sunday to Thursday. Any movement outside it counts as out-of-hours driving, whether a personal errand, a side job or night driving the policy does not allow.

It is one form of unauthorised vehicle use, and the easiest to detect because it depends on time alone. In Safee, the Out of Working Hours alarm condition checks vehicle movement and raises an alarm when it falls outside the window.

How it works

  1. 1Set a working window per vehicle
  2. 2Compare every movement with it
  3. 3Alarm and violation outside it

Why does out-of-hours driving matter in fleet management?

Every out-of-hours kilometre is fuel, servicing and tyre wear the company pays for, plus an insurance problem if a crash happens on a private trip. It also tires the driver, who then turns up for the next shift fatigued.

What you gain

  • Exposes personal use
  • Less fuel and servicing
  • Better-rested drivers

How does Safee help detect out-of-hours driving?

Safee flags each movement outside working hours as it happens and collects them, with distance and duration, in the Vehicle driving violations and Driver driving violations reports. You see how many kilometres are driven out of hours each month and by whom, and decide on numbers rather than impressions.

A field example

Medina · Building materials

A building-materials firm in Medina noticed the odometers of some of its light vehicles climbing at weekends. It monitored 25 vehicles outside working hours and found they were covering about 4,800 km a month off duty. Management briefed drivers and required prior approval for any private use. The next month the figure fell to 600 km, saving about 500 litres of fuel a month.

Frequently asked questions

How is out-of-hours driving different from unauthorised vehicle use?

Unauthorised use is broader: it also covers driving in places that are off limits or by a driver who is not authorised. Out-of-hours driving looks at time alone.

Is every out-of-hours trip a violation?

No. Shifts, emergencies and approved long trips are legitimate, so each type of vehicle needs a working window that fits it.
