Journey Management

In Arabicإدارة الرحلات المخطّطة

In short

Planning a journey in advance, assigning it to a vehicle and driver, then monitoring it against limits on speed, time and distance.

What is journey management in fleet management?

Journey management is an operating discipline that grew out of the oil and gas sector and is widespread in the Gulf: no vehicle moves without an approved journey with an origin, a destination, an expected time and clear limits, followed by someone until arrival. The aim is fewer unnecessary trips and safer long-distance driving. A journey is not the same as a trip, which the tracker records automatically from ignition on to ignition off: one journey can contain several trips separated by rest stops.

Safee's Journey Management module (JMS) assigns a journey task to a vehicle, monitors it during the task window and decides whether it was completed or overdue.

How it works

  1. 1Operator creates the task and limits
  2. 2Platform monitors the vehicle throughout
  3. 3Task closes completed or overdue

Why does journey management matter in fleet management?

In remote areas every mistake costs more: a crash far from help, a vehicle stuck without signal, a trip nobody authorised. With limits set before departure, a breach of speed, duration or distance becomes an instant alarm rather than a discovery days later, and the company keeps a record proving compliance to clients and regulators.

What you gain

  • No movement without an approved journey
  • Instant alarm on any breach
  • Auditable completion record

How does Safee help with journey management?

Safee turns each journey into a task with a plan and clear limits on speed, duration and distance, and watches it until it closes. Any breach reaches you as an instant alarm, and every journey ends with a documented result: completed or overdue.

A field example

Muscat · Oil-field services

An oil-field services contractor in Oman runs vehicles 450 km from Muscat to desert sites. Management required a journey task for every move, capped at 100 km/h and six hours. The first month showed 27 overdue tasks, mostly from unreported stops. After reviewing them with drivers, overdue tasks fell to six by the third month, with no accidents.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between vehicle tracking and journey management?

Tracking shows where a vehicle is; journey management checks what it does against an approved plan.

What goes into a journey plan?

Origin, destination and route, departure and expected arrival times, rest breaks, driver and vehicle, and who to call if it runs late.

Why do oil and gas companies require journey management?

Long, remote roads raise accident risk and delay rescue, so energy companies typically require contractors to plan and monitor every move.
