Motor Vehicle Periodic Inspection (MVPI)

In Arabicالفحص الفني الدوري (MVPI)

In short

Saudi Arabia's mandatory periodic roadworthiness inspection at approved test centres, required to renew a vehicle's registration.

What is motor vehicle periodic inspection (MVPI) in fleet management?

MVPI (Motor Vehicle Periodic Inspection) is the periodic roadworthiness test vehicles in Saudi Arabia must pass at approved inspection centres, covering brakes, lights, tyres, steering, emissions and body. A valid MVPI is needed to renew the vehicle registration (istimara), and driving with an expired one is a traffic violation.

In a large fleet, expiry dates are spread across hundreds of vehicles, so tracking them needs a system, not memory.

How it works

  1. 1MVPI date recorded per vehicle
  2. 2Date checked against today
  3. 3Responsible person alerted on expiry

Why does motor vehicle periodic inspection (MVPI) matter in fleet management?

A vehicle with an expired inspection can be fined at any checkpoint, and its registration cannot be renewed until it passes again. Tracking dates centrally also spares you booking 20 inspections in the same week, and lets you line inspections up with routine servicing.

What you gain

  • No expired inspections on the road
  • Bookings spread across months
  • Inspection tied to servicing

How does Safee help you keep track of MVPI dates?

Safee keeps each vehicle's MVPI date, lists vehicles whose inspection has lapsed in the Expiries Explorer, and alerts the people responsible in the system or by email. You spread bookings across the months instead of finding out at a checkpoint.

A field example

Dammam · Car rental

A Dammam car-rental company with 420 cars had 9 vehicles fined at checkpoints in one quarter for expired inspections. After it entered MVPI dates for the whole fleet, 61 cars turned out to be due within 60 days, bunched into the same two weeks. The fleet team spread the bookings over eight weeks alongside routine servicing. The next quarter brought no fines for expired inspections.

Frequently asked questions

How often is MVPI required?

The interval depends on vehicle type, age and use. Check the current schedule with the inspection authority before planning for the fleet.

Is MVPI needed to renew vehicle registration?

Yes. The registration (istimara) cannot be renewed without a valid periodic inspection.

What happens if you drive with an expired MVPI?

A traffic fine is recorded against the vehicle, and the registration cannot be renewed until the vehicle passes a new inspection.
