Equipment Activity Monitoring

In Arabicمراقبة نشاط المعدات

In short

Knowing whether a vehicle's equipment, such as a mixer drum, crane or pump, is actually working, through a digital input on the tracker.

What is equipment activity monitoring in fleet management?

Many commercial vehicles carry equipment that runs independently of driving: a mixer drum, crane, tanker pump or refuse compactor. Monitoring it is known as PTO (power take-off) monitoring, and the most common method is wiring the equipment's on/off signal to a digital input on the tracker.

Safee's Equipment Activity Status feature, set up on the Equipment Activity Settings page, detects activity in four ways: the on/off signal wired to a digital input, engine RPM read through a pulse counter, a BLE movement sensor, or a BLE angle sensor that picks up a change in the equipment's position. The equipment then shows as Active or Not active on the map and the vehicle card, and the Equipment Activity Report builds on that status.

How it works

  1. 1Equipment wired to a digital input
  2. 2Platform reads signal: running or stopped
  3. 3Status shown, running time reported

Why does equipment activity monitoring matter in fleet management?

Running equipment burns fuel and wears its mechanical parts even when the vehicle is parked. Knowing actual working hours lets you service the equipment on time, spot operation away from approved sites and bill customers for real working time.

What you gain

  • Live view of equipment use
  • Equipment working hours measured
  • Unjustified operation exposed

How does Safee help with equipment activity monitoring?

Safee shows equipment status live and measures how long it ran on each trip, so you know when and where the mixer or pump was working. Those durations drive equipment servicing, expose running away from approved sites and let you bill customers for real working time.

A field example

Riyadh · Ready-mix concrete

A Riyadh ready-mix plant running 50 mixer trucks saw unexplained fuel use and early drum gearbox failures. After wiring drum rotation to a digital input, it found some trucks turning empty drums for two hours a day while waiting on site. The plant tightened waiting procedures and tied gearbox service to running hours, and fuel use dropped 7%.

Frequently asked questions

What is PTO monitoring?

The industry name for equipment activity monitoring: tracking when equipment powered by the vehicle's engine, such as pumps, cranes and mixers, is running, via a signal sent to the tracker.

Does equipment activity monitoring need a special sensor?

Not always. The simplest way is wiring the equipment's on/off signal to a digital input on the tracker; where no such signal exists, engine RPM or a BLE movement or angle sensor can be used instead.
