Point of Interest (POI)

In Arabicالموقع المميز (POI)

In short

A named marker placed on the map for a place that matters to the fleet, with no boundary drawn around it.

What is a point of interest (POI) in fleet management?

A point of interest is a named point on the map such as a customer warehouse, a workshop or a weighbridge. It labels a place but defines no area, so entry and exit are not detected as they are for a geofence.

Its value is in reading and searching: operators see the place name on the map and in path history, and can find the vehicles nearest to it quickly.

How it works

  1. 1A point is placed on the map
  2. 2It gets a name the team knows
  3. 3It shows in monitoring and path history

Why does a point of interest (POI) matter in fleet management?

A new controller does not know that the grey dot is your biggest customer's warehouse. POIs make the map readable: operators answer "where is the truck?" with a place name instead of coordinates, and find the nearest vehicle to an urgent job in seconds.

What you gain

  • Readable map with place names
  • Nearest vehicle in seconds
  • Faster answers for new controllers

How does Safee help you use points of interest?

In Safee the point of interest is one of the four types of geographical unit, alongside polygons, circles and paths (approved routes), and appears on the live monitoring map. You can filter the map for vehicles near any POI, so controllers know which vehicle is closest to a customer without calling anyone.

A field example

Abu Dhabi · Pharmaceutical distribution

A pharmaceutical distributor in Abu Dhabi serves 230 pharmacies, and new controllers lost time working out which vehicle was closest to an urgent order. The company added every pharmacy as a POI named with its trading name and customer number. Controllers now type the pharmacy name and see the vehicles nearby. Time to assign an urgent order fell from about 15 minutes to 5.

Frequently asked questions

Does a point of interest raise an alarm on arrival?

No, it has no boundary. Draw a circle or polygon around the place if you need entry or exit alarms.

How is a POI different from an address?

An address comes from the map service; a POI is a name you set in your own terms, such as "Customer warehouse 17".
