WASL

In Arabicمنصة وصل

In short

An electronic platform launched by Saudi Arabia's Transport General Authority that receives location, speed, load weight and status from licensed transport vehicles.

What is WASL in fleet management?

WASL is a Saudi government platform the Transport General Authority uses to follow licensed transport vehicles in real time: their location, speed, load weight and status, from which it checks truck and driver compliance. Operators rarely send the data themselves; it flows through a tracking provider linked to the platform.

WASL has separate activities, set in Safee under Multiple WASL Activity: Default Tracking for trucks, the SFDA activities for refrigerated vehicles and warehouses, Towing Cars Tracking and Bus Transportation. Every message is accepted or rejected, and repeated rejections are a compliance gap.

How it works

  1. 1Register operator, vehicles and drivers
  2. 2Location, weight, status sent continuously
  3. 3WASL accepts or rejects each message

Why does WASL matter in fleet management?

A missing or rejected WASL feed tends to surface at the worst moment: an operating-card renewal or an inspection. A speeding or overloaded truck is visible to the regulator as it happens. That is why fleets watch their message acceptance rate as closely as their fuel use.

What you gain

  • Operating-card renewals without hold-ups
  • See what the regulator sees
  • Proof each message was received

How does Safee help you link your vehicles to WASL and monitor the link?

Safee is linked to WASL: it sends each vehicle's status, weight and location at the rate WASL sets, and records whether each message was accepted or why it was rejected. The WASL Dashboard and WASL Explorer show each vehicle's WASL state, silent vehicles, and rejected messages with their reasons, so you can fix them before a renewal or inspection.

A field example

Medina · Cement haulage

A cement haulier in Medina with 140 trucks found that 18 of them had shown Device No Signal in WASL for more than 40% of the month. The WASL Vehicle Messages report confirmed data reached WASL whenever those trucks reported, so the fault lay in the trackers, not the link. Technicians found loose power wiring on 16 units. A month later only two trucks remained in that state, ahead of the fleet's operating-card renewals.

Frequently asked questions

Does every company vehicle have to be linked to WASL?

No. Linking applies to vehicles in activities regulated by the Transport General Authority, such as goods transport by truck. Check the current rules for your activity with the authority.

What are WASL violations?

Breaches the Transport General Authority can detect from the data a vehicle sends to WASL, such as speeding or overloading, linked to the vehicle and driver. Operators review their own data regularly so nothing surprises them at inspection.

Why does WASL reject some vehicles' messages?

Often because plate, vehicle or driver details differ from the official record, or the vehicle is registered under the wrong activity, rather than a device fault.
