In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS)

In Arabicنظام المراقبة داخل المركبة (IVMS)

In short

An in-vehicle unit that records driver behaviour, such as speed, braking, acceleration and seat belt use, and links it to the driver's identity to score it against a safety standard.

What is an in-vehicle monitoring system (IVMS) in fleet management?

IVMS is the name used across oil and gas and contracting for a tracker with sensors and a driver ID reader. It records speeding, harsh acceleration and braking, seat belt use and driving hours, and attributes all of it to the driver. Many operators in the Gulf require it from contractors before they can enter site.

Safee builds IVMS violations on the alarm conditions of the SP-2000 road-safety standard and turns them into the monthly RALG colour rating and the IVMS Road Safety Report, which gives yearly driver-score statistics.

How it works

  1. 1Device records driving behaviour
  2. 2Violations scored against a safety standard
  3. 3Drivers ranked by risk

Why does an in-vehicle monitoring system (IVMS) matter in fleet management?

Without IVMS, the safety team only learns what happens on the road after a crash. With it, every driver has a record in numbers to justify coaching, warnings or suspension, and the company can meet contracts that demand a documented safety record.

What you gain

  • Meets oil and gas contract terms
  • Safety record per driver
  • Decisions backed by data

How does Safee help you use IVMS data?

Safee turns device data into SP-2000 violations, colour-rates drivers every month and gives a yearly picture by driver and driver group. These are the reports an operator client usually asks for as evidence that road risk is being managed.

A field example

Abu Dhabi · Oil-field services

An oil-field services company in Abu Dhabi won a contract requiring IVMS in 60 four-wheel-drive vehicles, with a monthly report to the client. The first month showed 9 drivers in red, mostly for seat belt and speeding. Two were taken off desert routes until they had finished training. Three months later only one driver remained in red, and the client accepted the reports without comment.

Frequently asked questions

How is IVMS different from a normal GPS tracker?

A tracker reports location. IVMS adds measured driver behaviour, linked to the driver's identity and scored against a safety standard.

Does IVMS include cameras?

The basic system does not. The camera version is usually called V-IVMS or video telematics.
