Fuel Flow Meter

In Arabicعداد تدفق الوقود

In short

A sensor fitted in the fuel line that sends a pulse for every fixed quantity passing through, measuring fuel actually burned rather than tank level.

What is a fuel flow meter in fleet management?

A flow meter measures what goes into the engine, not what is left in the tank. Each pulse stands for a fixed quantity, say 5 ml, and the pulse total is the consumption. It suits plant, generators and awkward tanks, and is not affected by tank shape or tilt.

Safee calls it the Pulse Counter. It gives total fuel used, fuel per trip and idle fuel, but no tank level or percentage.

How it works

  1. 1Fuel passes through the meter
  2. 2Each pulse equals a fixed quantity
  3. 3Platform totals pulses into consumption

Why does a fuel flow meter matter in fleet management?

When you want accurate fuel use per working hour on an excavator, crane or generator, a flow meter beats a level sensor. But it cannot see the tank, so it will not catch siphoning or verify fill quantities. Choose the wrong sensor and you end up measuring something other than what you meant to protect.

What you gain

  • Accurate use, unaffected by tilt
  • Suits plant and generators
  • Reports idle fuel too

How does Safee help you use a fuel flow meter?

Safee converts the meter's pulses into litres, giving accurate fuel per trip and idle fuel, which is what you need to price machine and generator running hours. Because the meter cannot see the tank, it is usually paired with a level sensor where siphoning is the bigger risk.

A field example

Jubail · Construction equipment

A Jubail contractor hiring out excavators and generators to industrial projects billed customers for fuel at a flat hourly estimate. After fitting flow meters to 25 machines, it found the large generators burned 22 litres an hour, not the 18 written into contracts. New contracts were priced on measured consumption, recovering about SAR 20,000 a month that had been lost in the gap.

Frequently asked questions

Does a fuel flow meter tell me the tank level?

No. It measures only what has been consumed, so you get consumption and idle fuel but no level or percentage.

When should I choose a flow meter over a level sensor?

When accurate consumption per working hour matters most, or a tank probe is hard to fit. If siphoning from the tank is your main worry, use a level sensor or both.
